Malaysia has recorded 11 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 9,285. There are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 125 for 25 straight days.

The Ministry of Health has reported 6 new recoveries and a total of 8,971 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is 96.62% while the mortality rate is at 1.35%.

There are currently 189 active cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 8 patients are in ICU and 6 of them require respiratory support.

Out of the 11 cases today, 9 are transmitted locally while 2 are imported. The imported cases consists of a Malaysian returning from the Philippines and a foreigner that arrived from Indonesia.

In terms of local cases, Kedah has a total of 7 new cases which include 5 from the Tawar cluster and two unrelated cases. There’s one new case in Selangor detected from a random screening and another case in Perlis detected through severe acute respiratory infection (SARI) screening.

With today’s update, there are now a total of 70 positive cases which include 6 in ICU from the Tawar cluster. The 5 new cases are students from a primary school in Kedah.

A total of 3,547 individuals have been screened from the cluster so far. The Ministry of Health suspects that the Tawar cluster in Kedah and Pulau Pinang might be caused by a mutated D614D strain. This will be verified through lab tests.

The ministry has also announced the end of four clusters in Sarawak. This includes the Sentosa, Satok, PUI Melbourne and Kuching Engineering firm clusters.
