Peak Design’s Travel Tripod is now available for pre-order in Malaysia. It is available in either aluminium or carbon fibre configurations, priced at RM1,899 and RM3,199 respectively.

Those who pre-order the Travel Tripod, between 6 June to 20 June, are entitled to two free accessories when they pre-order the carbon fibre variant and one bonus accessory should they choose the aluminium version. The choice of accessories include:

Ultralight Conversion Kit – Converts the Travel Tripod into an ultralight backpacking tripod
Universal Head Adapter – Use the Travel Tripod’s legs with any standard tripod head
Spike Feet Set – Spike feet for extra grip on slippery/ loose terrain

It will be available via selected authorised dealers which include online platforms Lazada and Shopee as well as retailers Storming Gravity and Oribags.

Not your average tripod

The San Francisco-based Peak Design is well known for their backpacks and camera accessories. Four years ago, the company decided to design their first tripod by eliminating dead space and shrinking it down even further. The result is a compact tripod that packs down to the diameter of a water bottle and measures just 39cm in length.

The highlight of the Travel Tripod has to be its low weight, enabling photographers to place in their camera bag or strap it around. The carbon fibre version only weighs 1.27kg while the aluminium version weighs 1.56kg. Despite its lightweight, the tripod can maintain great stability and has a maximum weight capacity of 9kg weight capacity. That’s more than enough to handle a full-frame DSLR and a telephoto lens.

But Peak Design didn’t just make the Travel Tripod smaller, they also made it easier to use. Strong and easy-to-use levers on the legs allow the tripod to be deploy and stow away quickly. Peak Design has even managed to integrate an ergonomic ball head to the tripod. It even accepts the popular Arca-Swiss mounting system, allowing you to use the same plates used in other tripods.

You don’t need to worry about bringing a separate tripod for your smartphone. Just remove the counterweight hook under the centre column to reveal a phone mount that accepts any phone. With it, you are always at the ready to let you capture time-lapses and long exposures with your smartphone.
