COVID-19: Malaysia records 78 new cases today, highest during CMCO

The Ministry of Health has reported 78 new COVID-19 cases which brings the total number of infections to 7,137. This is the highest number of daily cases since CMCO was introduced on 4th May. Unfortunately, there’s one new death recorded and the death toll is currently 115.

There are 63 new recoveries today, and a total of 5,859 patients have recovered and discharged so far. At the moment, the recovery rate is 82.09% while the mortality rate is 1.61%.

There are currently 1,163 active COVID-19 cases remaining that are still receiving treatment. 9 are in ICU while 5 require respiratory support.

Out of the 78 cases recorded today, 25 were imported while 53 are transmitted locally. From the local cases, 13 are Malaysians while the remaining 40 are non-Malaysians.

The ministry has reported 25 new positive cases at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Detention Depot which brings the total number of cases at the centre to 60. Meanwhile, there are 11 new cases reported at Kg Sungai Lui cluster, followed by 6 new cases for the Pesantren cluster. There’s one additional case each for KL Wholesale market and Pudu clusters.

For the imported cases, 11 are travelling from Saudi Arabia, followed by 7 from Indonesia. There are 2 each from Singapore and Pakistan, and 1 each from the United Kingdom, Ireland and Maldives.

Although Malaysia still continues to record double-digit figures for daily cases, this is the highest since 3rd May which recorded 122 cases. The ministry has urged the public to adhere to the SOP during the two-week festive season which includes Hari Raya, Pesta Kaamatan and Hari Gawai.
