Redmi Note 9s Launch: Here’s how to watch it live in Malaysia

Despite the Movement Control order, Xiaomi Malaysia will proceed to unveil its latest mid-range smartphone, the Redmi Note 9s. Instead of organising an on-ground event, the device will be unveiled through an online event hosted by Xiaomi Malaysia and Singapore’s new Country Manager, Nicholas Shi.

The Redmi Note 9s Malaysia launch is happening next Monday, 23 March at 8:00pm. You can catch the live stream via Xiaomi Malaysia’s Facebook page.

Ahead of next week’s event, the Redmi Note 9s is already listed on the official Xiaomi Store on Lazada. Priced at RM1,999, it is obvious that this is just a placeholder and the actual price will be reflected after the device is announced.

The product listing on Lazada also suggests that the device comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage. Again, this could just be a placeholder and it is likely that we could be getting different variants with higher RAM and storage options like the current Redmi Note 8 series.

From the banners, we do know that there will be a Lazada Birthday Sale promo. It isn’t clear if there’s an additional discount but the sale is happening from 12am to 2am on next Friday, 27th March 2020.

The question is, which specs are we getting? In India, there’s the Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. Both devices offer a large 6.67″ Full HD+ display and a Snapdragon 720G processor. The devices offer a quad-camera setup featuring a 48MP main camera for the Pro and a 64MP main camera for the Pro Max.

The new Redmi Note 9 series is also huge in the battery department with a generous 5,020mAh capacity. The Pro comes with an 18W fast-charger while the Pro Max gets a higher 33W fast-charging brick.

We hope that the Malaysian hardware spec will be similar to India’s Redmi Note 9 Pro Max and all shall be revealed next week. In India, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is priced at INR 12,999 (about RM762) while the Pro Max (about RM879) is priced from INR 14,999. Can Xiaomi retain its crown in the sub-RM1,000 segment? We’ll find out next week.
