Setel, the petrol e-payment app, is now enabling Mesra cardholders to pay for petrol using points instead of their wallet balance. This offers the flexibility for users to convert their existing points into credits for fuel redemption at Petronas.

To redeem, just launch the Setel app and tap on “Rewards” on the bottom of the screen. Then tap on “activate card” and enter your IC number. After that, you will get the option to convert your points to credits. If you don’t have a Mesra card, Setel allows you to register a virtual card via the app itself.

UPDATE: According to Setel, the Virtual Mesra card is currently not available for new users at the moment. If you don’t have a Mesra card, you can get a physical version at a Petronas station.

Every Mesra point is worth RM0.01. So if you have 1,000 points, you can exchange it to RM10 worth of fuel. There’s a maximum conversion cap of 15,000 points per month.

You can earn 3 Mesra points with every litre of fuel purchased and 1 point for every RM1 spent at the Mesra store. The Setel app is available for both Android and iOS.
