Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak: “I really want a folding phone”

Samsung and its tech contender Huawei has recently made headlines as both companies revealed their own versions of foldable smartphones. As the spotlight was drawn to their latest innovation, Apple’s co-founder, Steve Wozniak was predictably worried about iPhone falling behind.

In a TV interview with Bloomberg yesterday, he emphasized that Apple has been the leader in several aspects in terms of smartphone innovations, for instance, there’s the touch ID, facial ID and their mobile payment, Apple Pay.

However, he noted with concern about Samsung and Huawei being the first to grab worldwide attention by launching their respective models of foldable smartphone.

“They’re [Apple] ]not the leader in areas like the folding phone, and that worries me because I really want a folding phone.” Wozniak told Bloomberg. What the interview here.

So what’s Apple take on this? It seems like both of its competitors have adopted its high-price approach whereby the Samsung Galaxy Fold is priced at USD1,980 (approximately RM8,051) while the Huawei Mate X will land with an even more expensive price tag of 2,299EUR (about RM10,625).

And according to Bloomberg, Apple recently reported that iPhone’s revenue has decreased by 15% in the fiscal quarter from a year earlier, which is pretty bad.

Wozniak, however, was rather positive about the company’s future. He mentioned that the company will start to do something a little different, since the company is trying our a number of projects outside of its core iPhone market.

So what are your take on this? Could Apple actually be working on a foldable iPhone?
