Sony will be having a press event on Monday, 7 January 2019 in conjunction with CES 2019 that’s happening in Las Vegas. While Sony usually announces their latest flagship smartphones at Mobile World Congress in February, the Japanese smartphone maker is expected to reveal their latest mid-range lineup next week with the Xperia XA3 series.
While the official invite doesn’t provide much product details, the current Sony Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra were announced during CES 2018 and it is likely that Sony will follow the same trend for this year. Word has it that they will unveil a total of three models – the Xperia XA3, Xperia XA3 Ultra and an entry-level Xperia L3.
The Sony Xperia XA3 Ultra was leaked by @onleaks a couple of months ago via MySmartPrice. According to his source, the device will still come with a 6.5″ 18:9 display without a notch. That’s 0.5″ more than the current XA2 Ultra.
Under the hood, the XA3 Ultra is expected to run on a Snapdragon 660 processor with 6GB of RAM. There will be at least 64GB of internal storage that’s expandable via microSD.
Over at the rear, it gets a dual-camera bump that houses a 23MP + 8MP setup while the front is expected to come with a 13MP selfie camera with LED flash assistance. Powering the device is said to be a 3,700mAh battery, which is a slight bump over the current XA2 Ultra’s 3,580mAh unit.
When the Xperia XA2 and XA2 Ultra were launched in Malaysia, they were quite a decent offering with a reasonable price tag, for a Sony. However, we are not sure if the upcoming XA3, XA3 Ultra and L3 models will be coming officially to Malaysia anytime soon.
Their latest model, the Xperia XZ3, was not released in Malaysia and it appears that they are no longer as active as they used to in our local market. In an effort to maintain profitability, it was reported that Sony is considering to shut down their mobile business in selected markets.
