The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro is an affordable mid-range smartphone which competes with the Redmi Note 5. Before the year comes to an end, it appears that ASUS Malaysia will be introducing their 2nd gen ZenFone Max Pro very soon.

The new smartphone will be called the ZenFone Max Pro M2 (M2 for 2nd gen). From the teaser image above, it is obvious that ASUS is taking aim at Xiaomi.

Despite being labeled as a “gaming smartphone”, don’t expect it to be anything close to an ROG Phone. However, you can expect decent performance, a large screen experience and a long battery life if ASUS retains the same approach as the current model. According to the Facebook post, the new ZenFone Max Pro M2 will be revealed in a livestream on 11 December 2018. We are guessing that ASUS will start sales in Malaysia during the upcoming 12.12 sales.

In terms of specs, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 is rumoured to come with a 6.0″ Full HD+ display and it will come with a triple-camera setup. Under the hood, the processor is said to be a Snapdragon 660 unit that comes with a variety of RAM and storage options. It is also speculated that ASUS will release a cheaper dual-camera version that still runs on a Snapdragon 636 processor, like its current model.

If the rumoured specs are true, it looks like ASUS has an advantage over the current Redmi Note 6 Pro. It has a better Snapdragon 660 processor and possibly a larger battery. Hopefully, it will be priced under RM1,000 and comes with support for 5GHz WiFi.
