The upcoming Galaxy S10 is expected to be announced sometime in March 2019. While it’s still several months to go, Samsung will be unveiling its latest Exynos processor next week. The teaser image emphasises on the “intelligence from within” which is an indication that AI will be its primary focus.

Its main rivals such as Huawei and Apple have already introduced their new processors that are based on a more efficient 7nm fabrication process. Huawei’s new Kirin 980 chip has dual NPU for faster AI processing and it claims to be able to recognise 4,600 images per minute. Meanwhile, Apple’s new A12 Bionic chip boasts an improved neural engine that can process 5 trillion 8-bit operations per second.

Likely to be called the Exynos 9820, this new chip is expected to be based on a 7nm process. Looking at the timing of the announcement, it won’t be surprising to see it on the upcoming Galaxy S10.

Since Samsung is highlighting intelligence, you can probably expect a dedicated neural processing unit which will help to boost AI-oriented tasks such as Bixby and scene recognition for photography. We’ll definitely find out more on 14 November.
