While early PlayBookers are beginning to receive their devices today, Asian BlackBerry fans who are eager to get their hands on one are advised not to hold their breath.
Jakarta Post reports that according to a RIM official, Indonesian users will have to wait three to four months for the PlayBook to be officially released in the country. Though the publication is quick to point out that RIM has yet to issue a formal announcement on the matter.
This contradicts with what was told to us by a RIM representative who, at the Malaysian PlayBook preview last week, said that the PlayBook will be coming to Malaysia “very soon”.
Despite no official word from RIM on this and what the Malaysian RIM representative has mentioned, we are inclined to believe that the PlayBook will not be coming to Malaysia very soon.
This is because Indonesia and Malaysia have roughly the same number of BlackBerry users with estimates claiming that over 1 million Indonesians are currently using BIS with another estimate 1.5 million BIS users in Malaysia.
Considering the the market size for both countries are roughly similar and taking into account that Indonesia is potentially a bigger market for RIM than Malaysia, it is very unlikely for RIM to launch the PlayBook in Malaysia first.
