Xiaomi sold over 1 million smartphones in just two days in India

Xiaomi India Sales milestone

India is undoubtedly Xiaomi’s biggest market outside of China. During India’s festive sale held this week, the Chinese smartphone maker had sold more than 1 million phones in just two days. If you do the math, that’s more than 300 smartphones sold every minute for 48 hours straight.

This is not just a milestone for Xiaomi but it’s also an industry first in India. The sale took place on both Flipkart and Amazon India with discounts on phones and accessories.

On e-commerce site, Flipkart, the Redmi Note 4 was their highest-selling smartphone during the festival while on Amazon, the entry-level Redmi 4 and Redmi 4A were their best seller. This year’s sale is a massive increase from its previous year. Last year, it took them 18 days to sell 1 million smartphones.

Xiaomi’s feat is pretty impressive. After 3 years since it entered the Indian market, Xiaomi is currently the #2 brand right behind Samsung. To keep up with local demand, they have two local factories operated by Foxconn and that’s probably not enough to cope with domestic demand.

During the Mi A1 launch, they have also shared that Xiaomi is also the #1 smartphone brand when it comes to online sales. To increase their reach, Xiaomi is planning to launch 100 physical stores in 2 years to tackle the offline market.
