Enhanced RFID: Touch ‘n Go reveals 10 more lanes for faster toll payments, covering MEX, SILK, Grand Sepadu, GCE and EKVE

Touch ‘n Go (TNG) is expanding its Enhanced RFID network with 10 additional lanes across five highways in Malaysia. The upgraded lanes promise faster and more reliable RFID detection while serving as a stepping stone towards Single Lane Fast Flow (SLFF) and eventually barrier-free Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF).

The announcement was made at MyARTTE 2026 in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Touch ‘n Go’s 30th anniversary. The new Enhanced RFID lanes will be deployed at six toll plazas across five highways by the end of 2026.

Touch ‘n Go says motorists will be able to identify the Enhanced RFID lanes by looking out for the gold star symbol on the lane signage.

Enhanced RFID combines RFID, ANPR and AI

As previously reported, Touch ‘n Go rolled out its Enhanced RFID lane at the Dato Keramat Toll Plaza on AKLEH earlier this year. The system uses selected components from Touch ‘n Go’s homegrown Titan Flow technology stack and is designed to improve vehicle detection and toll lane throughput.

Instead of relying solely on RFID detection, the Enhanced RFID setup combines enhanced RFID capabilities with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning technologies.

According to Touch ‘n Go, this multi-technology approach improves vehicle detection and lane throughput, enabling more reliable toll transactions at higher vehicle speeds and smoother queue clearance. As shown above, the system was able to detect vehicles passing through at 33 km/h.

The Enhanced RFID system continues to operate within the existing toll lane environment with boom gates.

Touch ‘n Go says the technology provides a practical pathway towards SLFF and eventually MLFF, allowing technologies required for barrier-free tolling to be deployed, tested and proven under current real-world conditions.

Existing Touch ‘n Go RFID users do not need a new RFID tag to use the Enhanced RFID lanes. During its earlier rollout at AKLEH, Touch ‘n Go confirmed that existing RFID tags, including first-generation tags, are still supported.

Touch ‘n Go currently has more than 4.8 million registered RFID tags nationwide.

Where are the 10 additional Enhanced RFID lanes?

The 10 additional Enhanced RFID lanes will be deployed at six toll plazas across five highways:

• MEX – Putrajaya Toll Plaza: 2 lanes
• SILK – Sungai Ramal Toll Plaza: 2 lanes
• Grand Sepadu Highway – Bukit Raja Toll Plaza: 2 lanes
• GCE – Bukit Jelutong Toll Plaza: 2 lanes
• EKVE – Sungai Long Toll Plaza: 1 lane
• EKVE – Ampang Toll Plaza: 1 lane

At the moment there are two live Enhanced RFID lanes, each located at AKLEH (Dato Keramat toll plaza, Ampang bound) and MEX (Putrajaya toll plaza, Putrajaya bound) Highway.

The Enhanced RFID lanes are marked with the Gold Star on the RFID signage.
