KLIA Terminal 1 adds live e-hailing tracking: Along with RM3 driver entry fee

Travellers who are using KL International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 can now expect new additions to their e-hailing experience. This is due to several new features that have been deployed at the e-hailing pickup area at Level 1 of the airport’s Main Terminal Building, according to Malaysia Airports.

Among them includes Passenger Information Display System (PIDS), that showed the live arrival time of customers’ e-hailing vehicles. This is made possible by integrating the License Plate Recognition (LPR) system at the entrance of the pick-up area with the PIDS.

Based on the photos that were published on KLIA’s official Facebook page, it appears that customers have to enter the plate number of their e-hailing vehicle in the self-service kiosks at the E-Hailing Lounge in order for the vehicle to be tracked and displayed on the PIDS.

Malaysia Airports also said that KLIA Terminal 1’s e-hailing pickup area now has structured pickup bays and on-ground marshals to provide assistance to passengers as well as to make sure that the traffic flows smoothly.

Drivers now have to pay a fee to pick up customers?

In the same announcement, Malaysia Airports also said that every e-hailing vehicle that entered the e-hailing pickup area at KLIA Terminal 1 has to pay an entry fee of RM3. The company said that the fee will help sustain the operation and maintenance of the newly enhanced facilities and features.

Malaysia Airports also said that e-hailing vehicles continue to have 10 minutes of waiting time at the kerbside pickup area. Naturally, there will be penalty charges for vehicles that exceed this time limit, but the announcement did not provide further details regarding the penalty.
