DC Handal has finally expanded its EV charging network to East Malaysia.
They have turned on a total of 4 EV charge points located at Kelab Golf Sarawak in Kuching.
Unlike its usual deployment in West Malaysia, these chargers are using time-based pricing due to local regulation.

For this location, DC Handal has deployed a 120kW DC Charger with two CCS2 nozzles and two 22kW AC Charge Points.
The DC Charger is priced at RM1.30 per minute, while the AC Charge Points are priced at RM0.20 per minute (RM12 per hour).
For a 15-minute charge on the DC Charger, it will cost you RM19.50. Assuming you’re the only EV plugged in and you can get the maximum 120kW rate consistently, a 15-minute session would provide about 30kWh of energy which is effectively RM0.65 per kWh.
However, if two EVs are plugged in and you’re getting a consistent 60kW rate, the 15-minute session would provide about 15kWh of energy, which is effectively RM1.30 per kWh.
Since it is time-based, it is best to stop charging once the DC charging rate has declined significantly, especially after 80% state of charge.

For DC Handal, you can activate the charger by tapping your credit or debit card at the provided card terminal. Alternatively, you can also use ChargEV, Gentari Go and JomCharge to activate the charger.
In case you’re wondering, Sarawak has its own regulatory framework for energy and it isn’t covered by the Energy Commission (ST). As a result, only Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) is able to offer kWh-based pricing for EV charging.
