TikTok Malaysia has officially moved from digital awareness to hands-on empowerment with the launch of #ThinkTwice Training. This new train-the-trainer workshop series is designed to turn parents, creators, and educators into Community Champions, equipped with the technical skills to safeguard the next generation of digital natives.
We want to lighten the burden for parents. By providing simple-to-use tools that automate parental supervision, we ensure that parents don’t have to monitor every second, but can still feel confident in their teen’s safety.
Firdaus Fadzil, Malaysia Head of Public Policy, TikTok.
In collaboration with the Communications and Multimedia Content Forum of Malaysia (Content Forum) and the Parent Action Group for Education Malaysia (PAGE), this initiative addresses the parental burden by highlighting Safety by Design, a system where over 50 privacy and security settings are automatically preset for teenagers.
TikTok’s architecture ensures that as a teen grows, their digital boundaries expand gradually. Parents do not need to start from scratch; the platform automates supervision through these default tiers:
| Feature | Teens (Ages 13–15) | Teens (Ages 16–17) |
|---|---|---|
| Account Privacy | Private by Default | Private Pre-selected |
| Direct Messaging | Disabled | Off by Default |
| Screen Time | 60-Minute Default | 60-Minute Default |
| Nighttime Muting | Notifications stop at 9:00pm | Notifications stop at 10:00pm |
| Nighttime Meditation | Active 10pm – 6am | Active 10pm – 6am |
| For You Feed (FYP) | Not eligible for FYP | Eligible (with age filters) |
| Interactions | Duet, Stitch, Downloads: Disabled | Duet, Stitch: Off by Default |
| Comments | Only Friends can comment | Followers by default |
| Monetization | No Shop, LIVE, or Gifts | No Shop, LIVE, or Gifts |
The cornerstone of the training is the Family Pairing tool, which allows a guardian to link their account to their teen’s account to manage over 20 settings.
Newly Highlighted Technical Features:
TikTok’s corporate commitment to safety is backed by large-scale global operations:
The #ThinkTwice Training uses interactive safety simulations to prepare parents for real-life scenarios. Using the character Teen Cloud, parents practice:
While the safety tools provide the how-to for individual families, TikTok’s corporate strategy in 2026 focuses on building a self-sustaining ecosystem of digital literacy. The launch of the #ThinkTwice Training initiative on March 31, 2026, represents a shift from centralised awareness campaigns to a decentralised train-the-trainer model designed to empower local community leaders.
TikTok’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy is built on the belief that online safety is a shared responsibility. By partnering with two of Malaysia’s most influential advocacy groups, the platform is integrating safety into the national conversation on education and media.
The awareness phase of the #ThinkTwice campaign has already achieved unprecedented scale in Malaysia, providing a strong foundation for the new training phase:
TikTok has committed to a long-term roadmap. The #ThinkTwice Training workshops are scheduled to roll out to various local communities across Malaysia year-round. By focusing on interactive safety simulations, such as the Teen Cloud scenarios, TikTok is positioning itself as a proactive stakeholder in Malaysia’s digital future, rather than just a service provider.
