Travelling with an EV along the Gerik-Jeli route is going to get easier as there’s an upcoming EV charging station being deployed by TNB Electron.
The new DC charging location has been spotted at a Petron station in Jeli, Kelantan and it will definitely help to address range anxiety concerns especially for those driving an EV with shorter range.
What’s more interesting is that the upcoming site has a different setup from your regular TNB Electron chargers.
TNB Electron Charger at Petron Batu Melintang
As spotted by Yusof Ishak from MYEVOC Facebook Group, the new TNB Electron charger is located at Petron Batu Melintang which is 100km away from Kota Bharu and 220km away from Butterworth.
As shown in the photo above, TNB Electron is utilising a satellite setup which consists of a centralised power cabinet and three individual DC charge point terminals. From what we can tell, it is different from the typical Kempower and Autel terminals deployed by Gentari, DC Handal and ChargEV.
With the DC charging station almost completed, we hope that it will go live before the next major public holiday.
TNB Electron boosting range confidence in underserved areas
The TNB Electron DC Charger at Petron Batu Melintang is set to be the first public EV charging facility along the Penang to Kota Bharu route and it could be one of the most powerful in the northern region.
For this 320km route, it could be challenging for EVs with less than 400km of WLTP-rated range and this new charging stop would provide greater range confidence as users will be able to perform a quick top up along the way.
As of late, TNB Electron has been looking into underserved areas which include Gurun R&R, Petron Selising and Petron Kg Gemuroh. This is a commendable move and we hope to see more of such deployments in other charging deserts.
