The Proton e.MAS 7 is the currently the most popular EV in Malaysia and its sales figures continue to grow for four consecutive months. According to Proton, they have sold 863 units of the e.MAS 7 in the month of April, and it has remained the best-selling EV in the country.

As a comparison, Proton sold 797 units of its first-ever EV model in March. Last month, the national carmarker revealed that it has received over 5,500 bookings and delivered over 1,800 units of the Proton e.MAS 7.

According to JPJ’s registration data as of 31 March 2025, 1,738 units of the Proton e.MAS 7 were registered in the first 3 months of the year, making it the most popular EV model in Malaysia. This is followed by the BYD Sealion 7 which recorded 841 registrations and the BYD M6 with 537 registrations.

Following the launch of the Proton e.MAS 7, we are seeing more attractive deals and aggressive price cuts from its fully electric SUV rivals. Both the BYD Atto 3 Ultra and the Chery Omoda E5 were recently offered from just under RM120,000 after special rebate.

While EVs have gradually gained traction, Malaysia needs more affordable options below RM100,000 to accelerate mass adoption. Proton has confirmed that it will launch a more affordable e.MAS EV by the end of this year while Perodua is expected to launch their first EV model by the end of this year as well.

In addition, the compact Wuling Bingo is also expected to make its way in Malaysia soon and word has it will be priced under RM100,000.
