[ UPDATE 16/04/2025 16:00 ] The Google Pixel 9a is now available for purchase in Malaysia, priced from RM2,699.
Just over a week after the phone’s global announcement, Google has revealed another update for the new Google Pixel 9a. This time around, it is regarding the device’s release date in selected markets, including Malaysia.
According to the announcement on the Pixel Phone Help website, the new Pixel 9a will be available in Malaysia starting from 16 April. Other markets that share the same launch date are Singapore, Taiwan, India, and Australia.
Not surprisingly, Malaysia is not the first wave market for the Pixel 9a, although the difference will only be a few days. The new phone will be heading to the US, Canada, and the UK first on 10 April and then followed by the European market on 14 April.
Aside from the confirmed launch date, Google did not provide additional new information. Hence, the pricing for the 256GB version remains a mystery for now and for those who missed the original announcement, the 128GB version of Pixel 9a will be released in Malaysia for RM2,699.
The Pixel 9a will be made available in Iris, Peony, Porcelain, and Obsidian colourways. The device comes standard with a 1-year warranty in Malaysia and can be obtained from the Google Store as well as retail partners.

The Pixel 9a is essentially the entry point for the Pixel 9 Series smartphones. Despite that, the device is still equipped with the Tensor G4 processor, which is also used for its high-end siblings.
However, it only comes with 8GB of RAM. As mentioned earlier, the Pixel 9a is available with two internal storage configurations, including 128GB and 256GB, although it is not yet known which version will be released over here.
One of the Pixel 9a’s highlights is a brand-new exterior design with a flat profile and rounded edges. Google also claimed that the 6.3-inch Actua display on the Pixel 9a is the brightest display on an A-series class at 2700 nits, which is 35% brighter than the Pixel 8a.
At the same time, the pOLED display also has a native resolution of 2424 x 1080 alongside dynamic refresh rate capability, which can go as high as 120Hz. To guarantee its durability, the display is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass 3 while the Pixel 9a itself is designed to meet the IP68 standard.
For photography, the Pixel 9a relies on a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, which also has Super Res Zoom capability of up to 8x together with both optical and electronic image stabilisation. Next to it is a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera, while there is also another 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide for selfies on the front.
Powered by a 5100mAh battery, Google claimed that the Pixel 9a could last for over 30 hours on a single charge. The battery life can be extended up to 100 hours through the Extreme Battery Saver mode.
