Malaysian EV owners can now easily access over 2,000 charging points in Singapore through the JomCharge app. This is after the company behind JomCharge, EV Connection (EVC) integrates SP Mobility EV chargers into the app.
The activation of the roaming service marks a new milestone for the partnership between EVC and SP Mobility which was announced last August. During the early stage of the cooperation, GAC Aion EV owners from both countries could purchase charging credit for both platforms although the method was not seamless.
Based on our quick check, it appears the charging fee for SP Mobility EV chargers in the JomCharge app is identical to the native SP app. As an example, here’s what the charging fee looks like for the EV charger at Marina Square when you put the two apps side by side:
In terms of payment, you can still utilise the same credit or debit card that you already saved inside the JomCharge app. However, do note that the rate will be converted from SGD to RM which means that the final amount that you have to pay might be slightly different.
This is due to the exchange rate that the bank has set for your credit or debit bank. Meanwhile, we noticed that EVC has created a dedicated payment section for Singapore in the JomCharge app but it is not accessible at the moment.
As noted earlier, SP Mobility has more than 2,000 charging points throughout Singapore. They are being serviced by over 500 AC and DC chargers with power output ranging from 3.7kW to 43kW for the AC chargers while its DC chargers can deliver charging speeds between 50kW to 200kW.
Singaporean EV owners can expect to see the integration of JomCharge EV chargers in the SP app soon. The move will see a more seamless cross-border charging experience between Malaysia and Singapore although the exact rollout date is not yet known at the moment.
