If you need to charge your EV quickly, DC charging is the way to go but the pricing typically varies from RM1.20 to as high as RM2.20 per kWh. Just recently, Gentari has increased its pricing by 10-20 sen per kWh, which can go as high as RM1.80 per kWh at BESS-powered DC chargers.

Are there any locations that offer affordable DC charging? We’ve got you covered as several Charge Point Operators are currently running promos and special rates for selected locations.

Kuro EV offers DC charging for RM0.88 per kWh

Kuro EV is currently running a Ramadan/Raya promo where you can enjoy a special DC charging rate of just RM0.88 per kWh from 15th March to 14th April 2025. At that rate, these DC chargers are cheaper than most AC charge points.

DC charging etiquette

Charging from 80-100% is the slowest. Best to stop at 80%.

With DC chargers, it is recommended to charge only up to 80% or up to what you need to reach your destination comfortably. This is due to the charging curve as the final 20% (80% to 100%) charge is significantly slower to complete. In most cases, charging from 80-100% could take a longer time than charging from 20-80%.

Rather than occupying the charging bay for an extra 20-30 minutes, it is best to stop at 80% and continue driving until you need to top up again. As usual, if you’re done charging, move your vehicle immediately so that other vehicles can charge as well. Some charge point operators have also imposed idle and overstay fees to discourage hogging.

Before heading over to a DC charger, you can check for its status and availability in the charging apps.
