Mainland China has revised its visa waiver for Malaysian visitors and they have extended the visa-free duration from the current 15 days to 30 days starting 30th November 2024. The new visa-free travel extension was announced by China Embassy in Malaysia and is valid until the end of 2025.

According to the Embassy’s announcement on Facebook, China announced a more favourable policy to Malaysian citizens entering China which is effective from 00:00 30th November 2024 until 24:00 31st December 2025 (Beijing Time). The 30-day visa-free stay is granted to ordinary passport holders of Malaysian citizens visiting China for the purpose of doing business, sightseeing, seeing relatives or friends, making transits, attending exchange programs or making visits.

It added that visitors to mainland China who don’t fall into the above-listed category are still required to obtain a visa before entering China.

To recap, Malaysian citizens were able to travel to China visa-free for up to 15 days since 1st December 2023. Meanwhile, the Malaysian government granted passport holders of People’s Republic of China visa-free entry for up to 30 days since 1st December 2023.

China’s move to extend visa exemption for Malaysian tourists from 15 to 30 days was reportedly agreed upon back in May during the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.
