Samsung has just launched its latest budget-oriented smartphone, the Galaxy A16 5G here in Malaysia. Essentially the successor to the Galaxy A15 5G, the Galaxy A16 5G now gains a larger display, along with longer software support.
Offered in a single configuration only, you can purchase the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G in Malaysia right now. Interestingly, its price tag is RM300 lower than the Galaxy A15 5G it replaces.
Below is the price detail of the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G:
Between now and the 31st of December 2024, customers will be able to enjoy rewards of up to RM267 when purchasing the Galaxy A16 5G, while stocks last. This includes a 25W Super Fast Charger, a 128GB Samsung microSD card, as well as one year of extended warranty. You can get this deal via Samsung’s online store.
Like other recent Samsung Galaxy smartphones, the Galaxy A16 5G features a vertically arranged tri-camera setup at the back. It features a glass front, while its back and frame are plastic. The Galaxy A16 5G is available in three colourways here in Malaysia, including Blue Black, Light Green, and Gold. It’s also rated at IP54, making it dust- and splash-resistant.
At the front of the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display which is 0.2 inches larger than the Galaxy A15 5G’s 6.5-inch panel. The display has a 90Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 2300 x 1080 pixels.
Powering the Samsung Galaxy A16 5G is an Octa-core SoC running at 2.4GHz and 2GHz. However, the company did not reveal which specific processor it is, which could either be the Exynos 1330 or MediaTek Dimensoty 6300 chip. As mentioned above, you get 256GB of storage with the Galaxy A16 5G, which can be further expanded via its microSD card slot, along with 8GB of RAM.
The Samsung Galaxy A16 5G features a rear camera setup at the back, consisting of a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, a 5MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera, and a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera. Up front, there’s the 13MP f/2.0 camera to handle selfies.
Samsung has equipped the Galaxy A16 5G with a 5,000mAh battery. Charging it can be done via a USB-C cable at a maximum charging rate of 25W.
The smartphone runs on Samsung’s One UI 6.1, built atop Android 14. Amazingly, Samsung promises to provide the Galaxy A16 5G with up to 6 years of major OS and security upgrades. This is longer than the 4 years of OS updates and 5 years of security updates its predecessor received.
