You can now get MG4 for under RM96,000 in Malaysia

Aside from the MG ZS EV, SAIC Motor Malaysia has also announced rebates for selected MG4 models. As a result, the starting price of the electric hatchback has now been reduced to under RM100,000.

The rebates are available for two MG4 variants

One of the chosen variants is the MG4 Standard which was launched in Malaysia for RM103,999 back in March. With a rebate of RM8,500, you can now obtain the electric hatch for just RM95,499.

On the other hand, there is also an RM16,000 rebate for the MG4 Lux. So, you can now get your hands on the EV for RM112,999 instead of its original launch price of RM128,999.

MG4 Standard, MG4 Lux quick specs

In general, the Standard and Lux are the two lower-end variants of the MG4 family in Malaysia. Despite that, both still feature rear-wheel drive setup just like the Extended Range model.

MG4 Standard comes with a 125kW (168hp) electric motor while its Lux counterpart has a more powerful 150kW (201hp) motor. Despite that, they produce the same amount of torque at 250Nm.

Another major factor that sets them apart is their battery capacity as the Standard model carries a 51kWh battery while the Lux variant is fitted with a 64kWh battery instead. This has also affected their range given that the MG4 Standard can deliver a WLTP-rated range of 350km as opposed to the MG4 Lux which offers a range of up to 435km.

Aside from these two factors, the Standard model also features 17-inch wheels while the Lux option comes with 18-inch wheels. Some of the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features provided by the MG Pilot suite were only available to MG4 Lux including Blind Sport Detection with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Change Assist, Door Open Warning, and Reverse Camera with a 360-degree camera.

That being said, the MG4 Standard still has  Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Jam Assist, Intelligent High Beam Assist, and Driver Attention Alert.

MG4 vs other mainstream electric hatchbacks in Malaysia

MG4 and BYD Dolphin: two of the best mainstream hatchbacks in Malaysia.

When it comes to the mainstream electric hatchback market in Malaysia, MG4 is one of the top names in the segment. That being said, its fiercest rival, BYD Dolphin has more uptake in our market though since it was released in Malaysia much earlier and is backed by a strong marketing push by Sime Darby Motors.

Aside from these two, the only other sub-RM150,000 electric hatchback in our market at the moment is Neta V. While we included Dongfeng Box in the table below as we recently had a quick preview with it, the EV has not yet been released to consumers.

Here’s what their specs looked like when compared to each other:

*This is after Neta Malaysia’s RM24,300 Loyalty Program rebate. Neta V’s official price in Malaysia is RM100,000.

From the table above, you can see that MG4 generally has several advantages over its rivals including larger battery capacity, longer range, more performance, and faster DC charging speed. With the new price rebate, it may help strengthen MG4’s position in the market although let’s not forget that other manufacturers may have their own year-end deals too.
