The subsidy rationalisation for RON95 fuel will be implemented in the middle of 2025. This was revealed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during the tabling of Budget 2025 in the Parlimen.
As per most announcements that were made during the Budget’s tabling, in-depth details regarding the subsidy normalisation are not available at the moment. The Prime Minister did say 85% of the citizens will not be affected by the rationalisation.
In other words, the government will continue to provide subsidies for RON95 and this is expected to cost it around RM12 billion. That being said, the government still expects to save around RM8 billion from the move which will be used to aid the Rakyat and the country’s development.
According to Anwar, the government spent RM20 billion for the RON95 subsidy in 2023.
