CelcomDigi has updated that its network modernisation exercise has surpassed 50% of its targeted upgrades and is on track to reach 75% by the end of 2024. The telco said it has completed upgrades in Penang and they are currently ahead of schedule in building Malaysia’s leading digital network.
It added that Penangites can now enjoy improved service experiences across the state with close to 99% population coverage for 4G LTE and 98% population coverage for 4G LTE-A. Its network integration and modernisation works are also progressing well in other areas in the Northern region, surpassing 50% of the targeted deployment in Perak, Kedah and Perlis which are due to be completed by 2025.
CelcomDigi said it has achieved more than 50% of its targeted nationwide upgrade in what was previously expected to be a 3-year exercise. At the current rate, CelcomDigi is confident that it will complete 75% of its nationwide network upgrades by 2024, putting it in the prime spot to deploy Malaysia’s second 5G network.
CelcomDigi reiterates readiness to rollout Malaysia’s second 5G network
CelcomDigi’s CEO Datuk Idham Nawawi said, “We remain very committed to building and growing Malaysia’s 5G ecosystem, both on the infrastructure and applications layer. At the moment, CelcomDigi claims to offer the widest 4G LTE and 4G LTE-A network in Malaysia, covering 97% of populated areas nationwide and outpacing other mobile network operators’ site count by at least 50%. It added that it has modernised all components of its network covering RAN, core and transport, with 5G-ready equipment and more than 90% of its network sites are 5G-ready. With its ongoing integration and modernisation exercise, CelcomDigi says it can synergise 4G upgrades and 5G activation efforts in a single visit. As a result, CelcomDigi boasts that it can offer the most affordable, efficient and expedient manner to rollout a 5G network for the country.
With its current partnerships with over 100 tower and state-backed companies in both Peninsular and East Malaysia such as EDOTCO, Edgepoint and SACOFA, CelcomDigi says it is capable of deploying new and upgrading existing sites at speed to build a world-class second 5G network.
Besides improving the network, CelcomDigi has recently launched its AI Experience Centre (AiX) to accelerate the development and adoption of 5G-AI solutions. The telco said it will continue to drive 5G leadership by streamlining its product portfolios to offer a complete suite of new CelcomDigi Postpaid 5G, Prepaid 5G, and Home & Fibre products.
