Smart has expanded its seamless EV charging ecosystem with the addition of DC Handal into its Hello Smart App. This will enable Smart #1 and Smart #3 drivers to easily locate and pay for EV chargers on the DC Handal network.
DC Handal is a Charge Point Operator (CPO) which predominately offers ultra-fast DC chargers with capacity of up to 400kW. While the CPO’s main proposition is to accept contactless card payments, the integration with Hello Smart App provides Smart owners an alternative form of charging convenience without requiring extra apps.
Initially, Smart has integrated 3 major CPOs namely ChargEV, JomCharge and Gentari which represents about 70% of total charge points in the country.
Through the app integration, Smart aims to address range anxiety concerns by empowering Smart EV users to easily locate the nearest charger directly from the vehicle’s infotainment display.
However, to activate and pay for charging, Smart users will need to use the Hello Smart App on their phones. The EV charging session will be charged to the saved payment card and users can also choose to pay with preloaded charging credits.
During the launch of Smart #3, the brand announced collaboration with more CPOs to add more charging networks to its ecosystem.
Besides DC Handal, Smart is also partnering with Carput Zap and ChargeSini to expand its EV charging network footprint up to 80%. When combined, users will be able to seamless access over 1,200 EV charge points across 490 locations.
To recap, the Smart #1 and #3 Premium and Barbus variants can support AC charging up to 22kW and DC charging up to 150kW. However, the base Pro variants only support a single-phase AC charging up to 7kW and DC charging up to 130kW.
