TC Sunenergy Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Tan Chong Group, announced that their Floating Large-Scale Solar Photovoltaic (LSSPV) plant in Serendah, has successfully commenced operations in providing green energy on 5 January 2024. The project is the result of the group’s participation in the 20-megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) project, parked under the Large Scale Solar Photovoltaic Plant (LSSPV) Bidding Cycle 4 (LSS@MEnTARI) by the Energy Commission of Malaysia in 2020.

As part of the project, the 20MW floating solar panel farm was built on Sungai Rawang – Serendah Lake (which is located next to Tan Chong Motor Assemblies Sdn Bhd) and is expected to supply over 1,000,000 Megawatt Hours (MWh) of green energy to Tenaga National Berhad under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). The PPA was originally set for 21 years but received a 4-year extension in 2022.

TC Energy said that the green energy supply would see a reduction of 610,221 tonnes of CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) emissions to the atmosphere, equivalent to removing 132,656 units of cars from the road or planting 29,058,175 trees.

TC Energy also used only 60% of the water surface for the solar farm so the diversity of the local flora/fauna ecosystem and maintaining the water quality. The project complies with the guidelines of the Environmental Management Plans provided by Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) and the Department of Environment (DOE).

“TCS Floating LSSPV – Serendah is an important milestone signifying the Group’s first venture into the renewable and sustainable energy sector. TCMH Group is pleased to be able to play our part in conserving the environment for our future generations,” said Daniel Ho, Group Chief Executive Officer of TCMH.
