In just five days, we will be witnessing the official unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy S24 and until the launch takes place, expect the rumour mills to continue running on overtime. One of the latest rumours that has just hit the pipeline claimed that Samsung is planning to provide major software updates to the new flagship for far longer than its current policy.

According to a new report by Android Headlines, the new Galaxy S24 will receive updates for 7 years. The outfit also claimed that the 7 years of software support are not limited to security patches and minor fixes.

Instead, it is going to be full-blown operating system upgrades. If this rumour is true, this means that the Galaxy S24 that you are going to purchase in 2024 will be receiving new features until 2031.

As a comparison, Samsung’s current policy when it comes to major software upgrades is four years which is something that the company introduced back in 2022.

Google and Apple lead the way when it comes to long-term software support

By implementing the new policy, Samsung will be on par with Google who have pledged their commitment to deliver OS upgrades to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro for 7 years. The same also applies to security updates, as opposed to Samsung’s current security updates policy which only lasts for 5 years.

Apple has also been known to deliver major OS upgrades to the iPhone for multiple years. For example, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were launched with iOS 9 but the company continued to update both models up until iOS 15.

While we are still on the subject, Samsung Malaysia is currently offering e-vouchers worth up to RM400 that you can utilise during the pre-order period of the new Galaxy flagship device if you register your interest on its website. By doing so, you would also be in the running to win a mystery gift although you have to act quickly as the Registration of Interest page will only be open until 17 January.
