JomCharge and McDonald’s Malaysia are partnering together to deploy EV chargers. This is based on a DC fast charger (DCFC) that has been spotted at McDonald’s Pantai Sentral Park Drive-Thru in Kuala Lumpur.
This is the first sighting of a JomCharge x McDonald’s-branded charger
First discovered by our tipster Auf Pathor, this particular charger is a single cabinet variant of the Kempower Station Charger which is an all-in-one DCFC. We have seen a similar charger being installed by Gentari at Petronas KLIA before although the unit deployed at McD Pantai Sentral Park DT comes with two CCS2 connectors instead of just one.
The Station Charger shared plenty of nifty features with the Kempower Satellite Charger that already gaining traction not only with JomCharge and Gentari but also with other major Charge Point Operators (CPOs) in Malaysia such as ChargEV, and DC Handal. Among those features include a cable support system, a charging progress indicator, and the ability to monitor charging progress via the web.
From what we can see, this DCFC could be operational very soon. Even though it is being covered in a plastic wrapper, the work on its structure and wiring seems to have already been completed
As the charger is not yet online and has yet to appear on the JomCharge app, its actual output and charging fees are not yet known at the moment. Of course, what caught our attention the most was the JomCharge x McDonald’s branding on the front and back side of the charger.
Given the elaborate branding, we don’t think this is just a one-off installation and there may be more to come.
There have been EV chargers at a McDonald’s Malaysia DT before
Interestingly enough, this is not the first EV charger at a McDonald’s DT location in Malaysia. Our search showed that two AC chargers have been installed at McDonald’s Setia Alam DT several years ago.
Based on this YouTube video which was published four years ago, the charger was a result of the collaboration between local outfit Khind and a Chinese-German electric company TGood. However, none of these chargers are currently in working condition according to the comments on PlugShare.
