Honor Magic V2 set to launch in Malaysia on 16 January

The official Malaysian launch date for the Honor Magic V2 has finally been confirmed. The new phone which is the brand’s second foldable for our market was first launched in Honor’s native market of China last year.

It took the company some time to finalise the date which we originally thought to be on 3 January. The mystery was finally answered today after Honor Malaysia’s official website and Facebook page revealed that the Magic V2 will debut here on 16 January.

Honor Magic V2 quick specs

One of the Magic V2’s key features is its thickness. At just 9.9mm when folded, the Magic V2 is not only thinner than its predecessor but other foldable devices in the market as well.

As a comparison, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a thickness of 13.4 mm while the Huawei Mate X3 and Oppo Find N3 are 11.08mm and 11.7mm, respectively. When unfolded, the Magic V2 is just 4.7mm thin and it is quite lightweight as well at only 231g.

To help increase the durability of Magic V2’s hinge, Honor has implemented a titanium alloy cover on its shaft. The company claimed that the new titanium alloy shaft is 150% stronger than a similar-sized shaft made from aluminium alloy.

Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 alongside 16GB of RAM and up to 1TB internal storage, the device also comes with a 6.43-inch cover display that features LTPO OLED with a native resolution of 2376 x 1060. Honor also utilises an LTPO OLED panel for the phone’s massive 7.92-inch main screen which has 2344 x 2156 resolution.

Both displays are capable of delivering refresh rates of up to 120Hz and they are also able to support HDR10+ content. For movie lovers out there, they might be pleased to know that Magic V2’s main screen is also an IMAX Enhanced-certified display.

When it comes to photography, the Magic V2 relies on its triple camera setup which features a 50MP f/1.9 main camera with optical image stabilisation. The rear camera module also comes with a 50MP f/2.0 ultrawide camera alongside a 20MP telephoto camera with 2.5x optical zoom and 40x digital zoom capabilities.

The rear camera module also contains an 8×8 dToF laser focusing system together with flicker and colour temperature sensors. For selfies, both Magic V2’s screens have been equipped with a 16MP f/2.2 camera.

Completing the Magic V2’s general specifications is a dual-cell battery with a total capacity of 5000mAh. This foldable does support wired fast charging of up to 66W through Honor SuperCharge technology although unfortunately, it does not have wireless charging capability.

How much Honor Magic V2 will cost in Malaysia?

Pricing-wise, Honor Malaysia is still keeping a tight lid on it which doesn’t come as a surprise. Based on its pricing in China and considering its status as a flagship-level foldable phone, it surely not going to be cheap.

If you need a reference point, the Magic V2 itself has a starting price of CNY8,999 (~RM5,888) in China and to drive the point further, even the original Magic Vs that was launched in Malaysia last April carries a hefty price tag of RM5,999. Nevertheless, stay tuned for the official announcement coming your way next week for more details.
