ChargeSini has just restructured its idle fees for its EV charge points which can be good news for those who need extra time to remove their vehicle. The idle fees are meant to discourage hogging by penalising EV owners who don’t remove their vehicles after charging is completed. While the idle fee rates remain the same at RM1.00 per 5 minutes, ChargeSini is now imposing the fees depending on the utilisation at the specific location.
ChargeSini Idle Fee now kicks in at 75% occupancy
As shown on their updated app, ChargeSini’s idle fees will now only kick in when the station hits 75% capacity. This means if an EV charging location has four charging bays, the fees will only be imposed if three out of four chargers at the location are occupied. For locations with 3 or fewer chargers, the idle fees will kick in when all charge points are fully occupied.
Take note that users are given a 15-minute grace period to move their car once charging is completed. If you don’t move your EV after 15 minutes and 75% of the chargers are utilised, you will be charged RM1 per 5 minutes. That’s RM6 for 30 minutes or RM12 per hour for hogging the charging bay.
ChargeSini customers will receive a single phone call once charging is completed. If the occupancy rate has hit 75%, ChargeSini will make a total of 3 calls to notify the customer to remove their vehicle.
As a comparison, Tesla Supercharger imposes a much higher idle fee when at least half of the DC charging stalls are utilised. In Malaysia, the idle fees are RM2 per minute at 50% capacity and RM4 per minute at 100% capacity. That’s a whopping RM240 per hour for idle fees if all the Tesla Supercharger stations are occupied at the location.
ChargeSini Idle Fee Cut Off Time
For users who plan to charge overnight, ChargeSini has an idle fee cut-off time where the idle fees are not applicable. In most locations, the cut-off time is between 12:00am to 9:00am. This means if your car is fully charged in the early hours of the morning, you don’t need to rush to your vehicle since you have sufficient time to move it before the end of the idle fee period.
