The ThinkPad X1 Carbon has long been considered among the best business laptops you can get, and Lenovo is looking to continue that trend with the latest ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12. It not only gets the latest hardware under the hood, but is also built out of recycled airplane components.

Yep, you read that right. As part of Lenovo’s attempt to move towards a ‘circular economy’ and reduce waste, the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon is built using more recycled materials, post-consumer recycled plastic, bamboo and sugarcane packaging to minimise the amount the virgin materials needed to manufacture the device. In order to still achieve that iconic carbon fibre finish though, Lenovo is working with Toray Industries to get a supply of recycled carbon fibre material sourced from the carbon fibre composites used in Boeing 787 wing production.

Under the hood meanwhile you’ll find up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, with up to 64GB of LPDDR5X memory and up to 2TB of PCIe Gen 4 SSD storage. There’s also a 14-inch display, which Lenovo says can be configured to up to a 2.8K OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, while above it is a unique ‘Communications Bar’ housing up to an 8MP camera for top tier video conferencing. Keeping the lights on is a 57Wh battery, all in a smaller chassis that’s 14.96mm thick and weighing as little as 1.09kg.

Other features of note include tactile markings on the keyboard to help visually impaired users access important functions like the volume control, insert key, Fn key and the Enter key. Furthermore, the trackpad is now larger at 120mm and continues to feature physical buttons as well as the iconic red TrackPoint nub; you’ll also be able to opt for a glass haptic touchpad instead. You’ll find two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a HDMI 2.1 port and a 3.5mm audio jack, with support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.3 wireless connectivity.

There’s no word just yet on when the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 12 will appear in Malaysia, with Lenovo only confirming that a limited range of models will go on sale in the US later this month with a starting price of USD2,989 (~RM13,960.12), with more configurations appearing next year.
