Imagine this: you’re someone who’s firmly in the Apple ecosystem and also recently got yourself an iPhone 15 with USB-C charging. You might then be a little annoyed that your only gadget left that requires a Lightning cable are your old AirPods Pro (2nd Gen). It’s not like you’re going to buy a brand new pair of earbuds that already typically cost RM1,099 again just to get that USB-C port on the bottom right?
If that sounds like you, then you may be pleased to hear that you can now get just the charging case with the USB-C port—and MagSafe charging for that matter—on its own now. As spotted by the folks over at LowYat.net, the Apple Malaysia website is now selling just the AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) charging case with USB-C as a standalone product. It will still cost you RM449, which is quite a bit for just the charging case itself, but again that’s less than half of what Apple wants you to pay for the complete set of the second generation AirPods Pro.
The case itself is pretty much nearly identical to the original charging case for the second generation AirPods Pro, with the only other notable difference aside from switching to a USB-C port instead of Lightning connector being an IP54 dust and water resistance rating, up from the original charging case’s IPX4 rating. The charging case will provide for up to 30 hours of listening time, with a 5 minute charge from the case giving your AirPods Pro earbuds an additional hour of use. You’ll find a lanyard loop too to let you hook it up to your backpack or handbag easily, while inside it is the same U1 chip with Precision Finding to help you locate the charging case. When your purchase the standalone AirPods Pro (2nd Gen) USB-C charging case, you’ll also get a USB-C charging cable inside the box.
