Panasonic has just announced a new Micro Four Thirds camera, and interestingly, it is a “running change” launch, as the new model will be replacing the previous model once the stock runs out. The new Panasonic LUMIX G100D is Panasonic’s second attempt on a vlogging camera ala Sony ZE-V10.
First launched in 2020, the camera has a 4/3 sensor that can shoot 20-megapixel photos and 4K videos (at 30p and 24p) as well as 1080p video (at 60p). The sensor has a maximum sensitivity of ISO 25600. Plus, it has a 5-axis hybrid image stabilization for shaky moments.
The Video Selfie mode is the camera’s flagship mode for vlogging when used along with the 3-inch articulating screen. What is new with the G100D is that the viewfinder eschews LCD, and replaces it with an OLED panel, 2.36M dots but with a bigger 0.74x magnification.
Other features of the G100 include Frame Marker (checking the composition of popular aspect ratios during recording), a RED Frame Indicator (for showing whether the camera is recording), high-quality spatial audio by Nokia’s OZO Audio (using 3 microphones), slow/quick-motion footage, timelapses, V-Log recording, 4K PHOTO (extracting images from footage), Bluetooth/Wi-Fi connectivity, AC/USB charging, and HDMI.
Additionally, Panasonic updated the USB port on the camera to a USB C port. The port can do both power and data, so you should be able to use your USB-C cable lying around. Unfortunately, the port is USB 2.0, so you will not get any super-fast transfer speeds when you connect to your computer.
We have reached out to Panasonic Malaysia to see if this model will be heading here, but if you are planning to get it, we can expect the camera with the kit lens to be priced at around RM 3,999.
