If you’re doing an interstate road trip with an EV during the year-end holiday season, take note of these EV charge point closures on Gentari’s network. Their EV charger at Petronas Gambang Westbound as well as Petronas Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Ipoh will be temporarily unavailable for several weeks in December.
For those travelling between Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur on the East Coast Expressway (LPT), the sole 50kW DC charger at Petronas Gambang Westbound will be unavailable from 7th until 31st December 2023. For the time being, it is recommended to top up your EV with sufficient charge at Kuantan before you hit the highway. The next available DC charger on this stretch is at Petronas Genting Sempah but it is a slower 24kW DC charger, priced at RM0.50 per minute.
For those who need to top-up their EV in Ipoh, the popular 120kW DC Charger at Petronas Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah will be closed between 11th to 16th December 2023. The next best kWh-based DC charger alternatives can be found near Starbucks Sunway Tambun DT at X Park Sunway City Ipoh. This location has a 100kW Gentari DC Charger with two CCS2 nozzles and it is priced at RM1.50 per kWh. Just a few meters away is a ChargEV 30kW DC charger that’s priced at RM1.20 per kWh.
According to Gentari, these locations are closed for canopy construction which is aimed at providing a more comfortable charging experience. At the moment, these chargers are not covered and it can be inconvenient to charge your EV when it rains.
Gentari currently has over 200 EV charge points and it aims to double that number by the end of this year. Together with EVC (JomCharge), they are currently deploying more DC chargers at Petronas stations along interstate highways. Recently, it has turned on its 180kW DC charger at Petronas Ulu Bernam Southbound, DC chargers with battery energy storage system at Behrang Lay-by and its 150kW DC charger at Petronas Solaris Seri Kembangan. Other upcoming Gentari DC charging sites include Petronas Sungai Buloh Lay-by Southbound, Petronas NKVE Northbound and Petronas Seremban R&R (Northbound) and (Southbound).
