Lenovo Legion Go with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme now officially in Malaysia, priced at RM3,999

After first announcing it back in September, the Lenovo Legion Go is finally coming to our shores. Seen as a Windows-powered rival to the likes of the Valve Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally, the Legion Go does have a couple of additional tricks up its sleeve compared to the other two handheld gaming devices, though will also be priced a little higher than its main competition.

So far, Lenovo has confirmed that only the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme version with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage is coming to Malaysia, with a RM3,999 price tag. That’s notably RM600 more than what was originally mentioned on their website a number of weeks ago when it first appeared online, and is also a fair bit more than the RM3,299 asking price of the Asus ROG Ally.

Available for pre-order from 8 December till 17 December, all customers who pre-order the Lenovo Legion Go at Lenovo Exclusive Stores will be offered a purchase-with-purchase deal of the Lenovo Legion E510 gaming headphones for RM249, down from its retail price of RM389. Furthermore, all pre-orders of the Legion Go from Lenovo Exclusive Stores and Lenovo’s website will come with a free screen protector too; you will also be able to find it on the official Lenovo Malaysia store on Lazada and Shopee.

Right off the bat, you’ll notice that the Legion Go is a fair bit larger than its competition in the handheld gaming space. It comes with a larger 8.8-inch, IPS display pushing a QHD+ (2560 x 1600p) resolution in a 16:10 aspect ratio and is capable of up to a 144Hz refresh rate too. The touchscreen also covers 97% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, and you’ll find an unspecified layer of Corning Gorilla Glass over it too for scratch resistance.

Under the hood though, it’s a much more familiar affair with the Legion Go powered by the AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, packing an eight-core, sixteen thread CPU and integrated graphics with 12 of AMD’s RDNA3 compute units. Tagging along for the ride meanwhile is 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM running at 7500MHz and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD. It runs Windows 11 of course, and has its own Legion Space software preinstalled on it for easy management of your games. Keeping the lights on is a 49.2Whr battery, with each controller also coming with their own 900mAh battery.

The left and right controller themselves have batteries because they’re detachable, like the Joy-Con controllers on the Nintendo Switch. You’ll find your usual assortment of buttons on them, such as the ABXY buttons, a D-pad, hall effect joysticks, bumpers and triggers, but also some cool additions like a trackpad on the right controller which lets you navigate around Windows with the mouse like you would on a laptop. There’s even gyroscopic controls on it, letting you remove the right controller and attach it onto a dock for joystick controls in first person shooters.

Other features of note on the Legion Go include a USB-C 4.0 port on the top and another on the bottom, each supporting DisplayPort 1.4 output and USB-PD 3.0 charging, as well as a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm combo audio jack. You’ll also find a pair of 2W stereo speakers and a dual-array microphone setup, while for wireless connectivity the Legion Go supports WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The whole thing weighs in at 854g, though without the controllers it comes in at 640g.
