Shell Recharge has announced plans to deploy a major EV charging hub in Resorts World Genting in early 2024. The upcoming EV charging site at the integrated hilltop resort will offer 10 charging bays including 360kW DC chargers that can top-up a Porsche Taycan’s battery from 5-80% in 20 minutes.
According to Shell, the upcoming EV charging deployment is made possible through the strategic partnership with Porsche Malaysia and Genting Malaysia Berhad. It joins the Shell Recharge EV network of 136 points which are located in key cities and along highways in Peninsular Malaysia, connecting Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
Shell Recharge charging hub at Resorts World Genting to feature 360kW DC fast chargers
The upcoming EV charging Hub at Genting will feature four bays of 360kW high-performance DC fast charging and six bays of 22kW AC charge points. The location is said to be at Genting Highlands Hilltop, opposite the Highlands Hotel. When completed, this could be the fastest publicly accessible 360kW DC charger in the country.
Shell Mobility Malaysia General Manager Seow Lee Ming said, “With the addition of 10 charging bays at the hilltop of Resorts World Genting, we continue to make headway towards a continued commitment to enabling a net-zero transport solution in Malaysia. Soon, EV customers from all over the country and beyond will be able to drive their way up to this premier resort without having range anxiety, experiencing a worry-free journey with our Shell Recharge network.”
Meanwhile, Sime Darby Auto Performance CEO, representing Porsche Malaysia, Christopher Hunter, said, “Our partnership with Shell Recharge is a testament to our commitment to enabling long-distance, cross-border travel in an EV, connecting three countries – Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. We are delighted to further elevate the seamless charging experience for our Porsche Taycan owners, as well as other Porsche electric vehicle models on the horizon, with this new high-performance Shell Recharge 360kW DC charging hub in Resorts World Genting, providing ultra-fast charging speeds of just approximately 20 minutes for a complete 5-80% State of Charge (SoC).”
Genting Malaysia Berhad’s Senior Vice President for Real Estate Development and Projects, Gary Chen Wing Kong said, “We are honoured to be able to offer a high-performance EV charging hub to our guests. With the rapid adoption of EV cars in Malaysia and across the region, this will help promote sustainable tourism and provide convenience to our visitors up at Resorts World Genting.”
Shell Recharge to transition to kWh-based pricing for EV charging
Shell Recharge EV chargers in Malaysia are activated via the ParkEasy app which is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Users will have to reload their wallets by topping up “credits” before they can book and activate the chargers. Since the charging bays are equipped with barriers, Shell Recharge users can check the availability and reserve the spot before arriving at the location.
Shell Recharge has announced that it will be transitioning from time-based to kWh-based pricing mechanism for its chargers. At the moment, its AC charge points are priced at RM1.00 per kWh and there’s a RM5.00 confirmation fee. Starting 15th December 2023, Shell Recharge’s 180kW DC charger will be priced at RM2.20 per kWh with a RM5.00 confirmation fee. This would be a welcomed revision for most EV owners as the 180kW DC chargers are currently priced at RM4.00 per minute.
