Tesla has announced that its new Supercharger location at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet in Melaka is now operational. This marks Tesla’s 4th Supercharger location in Malaysia and they now have a total of 20 Superchargers deployed in the country so far.

Tesla Supercharger Freeport A’ Famosa Outlet Rates and Fees

The latest Supercharger location at Jalan Kemus/Sempang Ampat at Alor Gajah has a total of four V3 Supercharging stalls and one destination charger. The Superchargers can deliver DC fast charging up to 250kW but your actual maximum charging rate depends on several factors including the vehicle’s variant and current state of charge. According to Tesla Malaysia, a Model 3 can recharged with up to 282km of range in just 15 minutes.

Similar to other locations, the Tesla Superchargers at Freeport A’ Famosa Outlet are priced at RM1.25 per kWh. To discourage hogging, there’s an idle fee of RM4 per minute if all chargers are fully occupied or RM2 per minute if 50% of the stations are occupied. Idle fees are charged if you don’t move your EV after charging has ended.

For the sole destination charger at Freeport A’ Famosa, we are told that it is currently offered for free until further notice.

There’s no parking fee for this new Tesla Supercharger location and it is operational 24 hours a day. Tesla Superchargers in Malaysia use the CCS2 port, however, all of the chargers are currently exclusive to Tesla vehicles only.

Tesla has achieved 40% of MITI’s Supercharger target in less than 6 months

Under the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) Global Leaders program, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) requires Tesla to install at least 50 units of “ultra-fast chargers” with a capacity of 180kW within 3 years. 6 months since Tesla Malaysia’s official debut in our market, they have already deployed four public charging locations with a total of 20 chargers.

Tesla has also signed a partnership with Pavilion, Sunway, Gamuda, MRCB, Quill and Levn Capital to expand its Supercharger rollout.

Prior to this, Tesla had also switched on its Supercharger location at Sunway Pyramid in Selangor, Sunway BigBox in Johor, and Pavilion KL. There are also Tesla Superchargers at Tesla Centre Cyberjaya but these units are currently for internal use.

Besides fast DC chargers, Tesla Malaysia has also deployed Destination chargers at various locations which are mostly not switched on yet. This includes Sunway Velocity Mall, Sunway Putra Mall and Pavilion Damansara Heights.

In case you missed it, do check out our test drive video of the upgraded Tesla Model 3 Highland. We also covered about Tesla Supercharger and demonstrated how easy it is to plug and charge without requiring additional apps or payment cards.
