Besides deploying Superchargers, Tesla has also started to turn on its Destination charger at several locations. These are essentially AC charge points and it uses the same Wall Connector for home users. Tesla has also confirmed that these chargers are free to use until further notice.
Among the four Tesla Supercharger locations, there are only two Tesla Destination chargers available which are each located at Freeport A’Famosa Outlet at Alor Gajah, Melaka and Sunway Big Box at Iskandar Puteri, Johor. Parking at these locations is currently free.
Similar to Tesla Superchargers, the Destination chargers are for Tesla vehicles only. Just plug in the connector to your Tesla vehicle and it will start charging automatically. Tesla users can monitor the charging session via the Tesla app. The charger uses a Type-2 connector which is standard for most EVs sold in Malaysia.
The Tesla Wall Connector supports 32Amp three-phase and is able to deliver up to 22kW of AC charging. However, take note that the Tesla vehicles sold in Malaysia only support up to 11kW of AC Charging. According to Tesla, the Wall Connector can top up to 71km of range per hour which is great for overnight charging or if you’re spending a couple of hours at a destination.
Besides these two locations, there are more Tesla Destination chargers spotted around the Klang Valley such as Sunway Putra Mall, Sunway Velocity and Pavilion Damansara Heights. However, these Tesla Destination chargers are still not live at the moment.
If you want to check out the Tesla Model 3 and the Model Y, both EVs are on display at the Tesla Centre in Cyberjaya and Pavilion Damansara Heights. Deliveries for the Model 3 in Malaysia are expected to begin by the end of this year while the deliveries for the Model Y will start in early 2024.
