After the global launch just a few weeks ago, TCL Malaysia officially launched their new smartphone – the TCL 40 NXTPAPER and TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G. Both phones offer a paper-like experience thanks to the matte display called NXTPAPER.
The new TCL 40 NXTPAPER and 40 NXTPAPER 5G are available now from the official TCL Malaysia Lazada and Shopee online stores for the following prices:
Purchases of the new 40 NXTPAPER 5G from 10 – 17 October will receive a pair of MOVEAUDIO Air Wireless Earbuds worth RM 159.
The NXTPAPER display is not an e-paper, but a standard LCD screen. However, the top layer has a matte display, with a paper-like surface to emulate reading on paper with the phones. The screens are certified by TÜV for low levels of blue light and because it is an LCD screen, you still get a full complete range of colours.
The screen also automatically adjusts the display brightness and colour temperature based on the time and surroundings to offer better eye comfort.
The first model, the TCL 40 NXTPAPER, is powered by the Mediatek Helio G88 chip, paired with 8GBs of RAM with 8GB of memory expansion (i.e. taking part of your internal storage for RAM). Speaking of storage, it comes standard with 256GB with the option to expand via microSD microSD support up to 1TB. The screen is a 6.78-inch FHD display with NXTPAPER technology. The phone only supports 4G connectivity, but as an added bonus, it supports an external pen called the T-pen that gives it stylus support, ala the Galaxy Ultras.
At the back, you get three cameras – a main 50MP f/1.8 camera, an ultra-wide 5MP f/2.2 camera and a macro 2MP f/2.4 camera. Selfies are handled by a 32MP sensor with a f/2.0 lens via a punch-hole cutout. TCL gave the phone a beefy 5010mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging.
Meanwhile, the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G gets the Mediatek 6020 chip with 6GB of RAM (plus 6GB of RAM expansion), 256GB of storage and microSD support up to 1TB. It has the same NXTPAPER screen at a smaller size – only 6.6-inch. The resolution also gets bumped down to 720p only. This phone loses support for the T Pen but gains 5G connectivity.
Imaging is handled by a main 50MP f/1.8 camera, paired with a 2MP f/2.4 depth camera and a 2MP f/2.4 macro camera. Selfies are handled by an 8MP f/2.0 camera on the front.
For colour options, the 40 NXTPAPER comes in Opalescent and Midnight Blue while the 40 NXTPAPER 5G is available in Starlight Black.
