Samsung has announced a new top-of-the-line portable solid state drive called the T9. Aimed at video professionals who require large storage and fast read and write speeds to transfer their files, it’s the company’s first external drive to utilise the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface.

This results in a maximum read/write speeds of up to 2,000MB/s—around double that of the previous range-topping T7 with the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface—allowing users to transfer a 4GB Full HD video in just over two seconds. All this in a package just slightly larger than the T7, measuring 88mm long, 60mm wide and 14mm thick, although it weighs more than twice as much at 122 grams.

Available in 1TB, 2TB and 4TB configurations, the T9 is able to withstand drops at up to three metres and features Dynamic Thermal Guard technology to prevent overheating and ensure consistent transfer speeds. It’s also unique in that it comes with a rubber casing for extra protection and is ribbed for your pleasure.

As with other Samsung SSDs, users can manage their T9 using the Samsung Magician software, which provides features such as data migration, performance benchmarks, security functions, firmware updates and real-time health status checks, though it should be noted that this is only available on Windows. The T9 comes with a five-year limited warranty and is on sale worldwide now, although Samsung has not provided any pricing for Malaysia just yet.
