Shell Malaysia has revealed the pricing for the Shell Recharge EV charging facility in Pavilion KL. The information was made available on the ParkEasy mobile app just mere hours after we visited the site earlier today.
Usually, the charging fee for Shell Recharge chargers in Malaysia is based on the amount of time that users occupy the charging bay. For the first time ever, Shell has decided to implement a consumption-based charging fee for EV chargers in Pavilion KL.
Meanwhile, the fee depends on the type of chargers that you choose. For the DC chargers, Shell has set the rate at 1.50 credits (equivalent to RM1.50) per kWh while AC charging’s rate is 1.00 credits (RM1.00).
However, things are not as straightforward as you may think. In addition to the charging fee that we mentioned above, you also have to fork out 5.00 credits (RM5.00) for the confirmation fee.
Shell has also implemented idle fee for its new chargers in Pavilion KL which doesn’t come as a surprise given the popularity of the location. For every 5 minutes, users would be charged 1 credit (RM1.00) although they are still being given 15 minutes of grace period before the idle fee kicks in which is similar to ChargeSini.
As a comparison, the Tesla Supercharger which is located on the row next to the Shell Recharge spot costs RM1.25/kWh. Tesla has also implemented idle fee of up to RM4.00 per minute over there although users will only be charged this fee if the occupation rate of the Supercharger goes above 50% and there is also a grace period of 5 minutes.
Of course, let’s also not forget that you also have to pay a separate fee for the Pavilion KL’s parking. Depending on the day and time of your visit to the shopping mall, the parking rate starts at RM3.00/hour although you most probably want to come after 5:00 PM since it would then be a flat rate of RM8.00 to RM10.00 per entry.
