HMD Global will no longer exclusively produce Nokia Mobile devices

After being the home of Nokia mobile phones since 2016, HMD Global has decided that it is now finally the time to expand its wings. In a post on LinkedIn, the company’s co-founder and CEO, Jean-Francois Baril revealed that the company has established a new mobile brand called HMD.

That being said, he didn’t revealed when exactly consumers will be able to see the new HMD-branded devices. Interestinly enough, this does not mean that HMD Global will be offloading its rights over the Nokia Mobile branding anytime soon.

In the same post, the CEO noted that customers can expect to see new Nokia devices soon although he didn’t provide any further clarification in the announcement. All in all, it seems that the business will continue as usual for Nokia Mobile.

In Malaysia, Nokia Mobile has been relatively quiet for the past few months though. A quick check on its Malaysian Facebook page showed that the last post that was published on the page was back in January.

Despite its current lowkey state, both of its Lazada and Shopee online stores did participate in the recent 9.9 sales. The top-of-the-range Nokia device in both stores is currently the X30 5G which was released in Malaysia back in October – just a month after its global debut.

The mid-range 5G phone is currently priced at RM2,099 which is the same price when it was launched last year. Other products that are currently available from both stores include the X20 5G, G21, and C21, as well as the T20 tablet and 105 4G feature phone.
