Samsung 990 Pro SSD comes in 4TB and perfect for PCs and PlayStation 5

For those who are looking to expand their storage on the PC or the PlayStation 5 (sorry Xbox owners), Samsung’s latest SSD should be the perfect solution for you. The 990 Pro SSD, the successor to the 980 Pro line, boasts incredible read/write speeds thanks to technological upgrades in manufacturing .

Optimised for transferring massive data volumes, the 990 Pro is perfect for work like 3D/4K editing, data analytics and playbacks of high-fidelity games, where a huge amount of data is needed between the local storage and the CPU/GPU/RAM.

Samsung claims a total byte written (TBW) rating of 2400TB for a longer SSD service life than ever before, so you can use the 990 Pro SSD continuously for a few years before it breaks down.

The 990 Pro SSD features Samsung’s V8 technology and memory controller, offering near-max PCIe interface performance. You can expect up to 7,450MB/s of read speed and up to 6,900MB/s for write. That is the equivalent of transferring a full Blu-ray movie per second.

The 4TB capacity also offers boosted random read and write speeds of up to 1,600K and 1,550K IOPS, which is tuned for those looking to access the storage fast – people like gamers, creative professionals, and tech enthusiasts. That increased capacity is much appreciated for modern games, which can easily go to the hundreds of terabytes per install.

Not only that, for those looking to expand the storage in thin-and-light laptops, the 4TB model is designed as a single-side M.2 form factor, so it will slip into the thin body without too much trouble. You can’t do that with dual-sided SSDs as they are thicker.

For those looking to upgrade to the 4TB option, it will be available in Malaysia from November 2023 onward – no prices have been shared so far. The 1TB and 2TB models are currently available for purchase from Samsung Authorised Dealers and online e-commerce shops.
