Sonos Move 2: Stereo sound in a sustainable package, with splash resistance and 24 hour battery life

Fresh off the production product line, the new Sonos Move 2 is the company’s update to the original Move portable speaker with greatly enhanced features and battery life. It is also designed to be more sustainable than ever before.

Sonos has upgraded everything in the Move 2 and introduced all new hardware and software for next-gen audio experience. The Move 2 now comes with stereo sound, a very meaningful upgrade thanks to the overhauled acoustics architecture. It now has dual tweeters for stereo separation and a single woofer for “mid-range vocals and a deeper bass.”

Move 2 supports paired playback – that is, a single music source, i.e., your phone, to a pair of Move 2 for stereo playback. This should expand the audio space significantly and also increase the audio quality – you get more stereo. Plus, the Move 2 can seamlessly be grouped with the rest of the Sonos ecosystem via WiFi.

What makes the new Move 2 a better model than its predecessor is the battery – it now lasts for 24 hours, up from the 10 hours of the older model. It is also modern – all charging is done via USB-C.

It is also one of the few portable speakers on the market with official ratings for water and dust resistance – in this case, it is IP56. It is a good partner for parties at the beach, waterfall or somewhere rugged. It also has a handy carrying handle on the back for ease of transporting the speaker.

Sustainability was at the forefront of the designers when designing the Move 2. It incorporates recycled plastics in its construction, uses less energy when idle (up to 40%), and has a removable battery for easy replacement and product life extension. Plus, it comes in a (Sonos’ own words) “responsibly designed package that uses sustainably sourced materials.”

You get three colour options – Olive, Black and White, and controlling the speaker is as easy as touching it. Seriously, it uses capacitive touch controls for volume control. As an alternative, you can use the Sonos Voice Control, Amazon Alexa, the Sonos App, Apple Airplay2 or just plain Bluetooth to play, pause, check the battery levels and more.

The Sonos Move 2 will be available for sale in Malaysia from 2 October, with a sticker price of RM 2,799. Those who are interested in preordering can place it at tcacoustic.asia from 9 September onwards, or at the Sonos Concept Store at The Starhill from 7 September.
