There’s been an insane amount of special edition Nintendo Switch consoles over the years, with the handheld gaming console getting everything from Pokemon and Animal Crossing themed editions to even Fortnite and Monster Hunter Rise. The last special edition the Switch OLED received was The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom edition, and Nintendo is now following it up with the Switch OLED Mario Red edition.

This new special edition console features the iconic Italian plumber’s signature red look, and was made in conjunction with the upcoming release of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Nintendo’s upcoming side scroller game. Curiously, while the game is only launching on 20 October, the Switch OLED Mario Red edition will be released globally on 6 October instead, two weeks before the game itself. Priced at USD349.99 (~RM1,624.13), there’s been no word just yet on availability in Malaysia by local retailers.
As for what makes this special edition special, well, it’s not much. The whole console, the Joy-Con controllers and the dock itself is covered in what can only be described as a Mario Red colourway, with a tiny Mario silhouette on the bottom left back corner of the dock. Pop upon the rear panel of the dock meanwhile and you’ll find some hidden coins there too. Other than that though, it’s pretty much a reskin of the standard Switch OLED console.
If you do get one of these Switch OLED Mario Red editions for yourself, in the box you’ll find the Switch OLED console itself with the two Mario Red Joy-Cons, along with the Mario Red dock, Joy-Con straps and docks, along with a HDMI cable and the power brick. Unfortunately, because the Mario Red special edition console comes out two weeks before the game it’s tied in with, there won’t be a bundle for it so you’ll still have to purchase Super Mario Bros. Wonder itself when it comes out.
