Google set to reveal new Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro on 4 October

Shortly after Apple announced its September event where the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro are widely expected to debut, Google is next in line with an announcement of its own. The tech giant has begun inviting members of the media for an in-person launch event happening in New York City on 4 October, 10pm Malaysia time.

And in peak Google humour fashion, they’ve made another episode of their #BestPhonesForever miniseries starring the Pixel and the iPhone. This time around, it sees the two phones having a ‘spa day’, with cucumber slices placed strategically to cover up their camera bumps. They talk about how it’s launch event season again, with the Pixel teasing the iPhone for finally getting USB-C charging.

It’s pretty amusing, especially if you’ve seen the previous #BestPhonesForever videos by Google:

As for what to expect, other than the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, we could be seeing the Pixel Watch 2 too, but seeing as Google had just only launched the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, chances are we won’t be seeing any successors to the latter two devices anytime soon. The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are set to be powered by the next generation of Google Tensor mobile processors, and we should be seeing new AI-powered features too, such as the already leaked Audio Magic Eraser tool.

Of course, while we will keep our hopes up, chances are that the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro won’t be making its way to our shores—officially anyway. Having never been sold in Malaysia in any official capacity, Made by Google products however are sold down south in Singapore, though grey importers are selling them here too.
