Digi has updated its international data roaming plans and they now offer an “unlimited” 5G roaming pass that’s valid for 57 countries for 30 days for RM98. As a comparison, the yellow telco had previously offered a World Traveller 30-day multi-country roaming pass which gives you 30GB of data and 30 minutes of calls that can be used in 69 countries for RM95.
Digi Unlimited 5G Roaming Internet Pass for RM98
According to Digi, the 30-day Unlimited Internet pass offers affordable data roaming for travelling and the best local operator will be automatically selected for you. In some countries, you can enjoy roaming with more than local one telco. On top of that, the pass allows you to enjoy 5G roaming in selected countries and 5G networks that are supported.
However, take note that this new “unlimited” monthly roaming pass is similar to Maxis and Celcom’s current “unlimited” roaming offering. While you can technically use it for unlimited usage, the new Digi monthly roaming pass has a daily “Fair Usage Policy” (FUP) of 2GB high-speed data per day which will be refreshed at 11:59pm daily. Once you’ve hit your daily limit, your speed will be reduced to up to 1Mbps, which is still decent enough for web browsing, navigation, social media updates and video streaming at lower standard definition.
While the new plan offers “unlimited”, the older monthly roaming pass seems to offer better flexibility as you are given 30GB of data to be utilised within the month. This means you can enjoy more than 2GB data at high speeds on a single day and the older pass even bundles 30 minutes of voice calls. On top of that, the older pass supports 69 countries which is more than the new “unlimited” roaming pass which covers 57 countries.
Digi also has a shorter 7-day Unlimited Internet Pass option at RM58 but it only covers 20 countries which include Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.
Countries that support 5G under Digi Roaming Pass
At the moment, Digi customers can enjoy 5G roaming in 32 countries as listed below:
New Roam Like Home covers 70 countries
For postpaid customers, Digi has also upgraded its Roam Like Home offering which now covers 70 countries. This Roam Like Home add-on costs RM35/month and you can enjoy this perk for free as a Freedom Add-on with a 24-month contract. The free roaming data varies depending on the postpaid plan you’re on. For example, Digi Postpaid 90 gets 5GB, Postpaid 120 gets 20GB and Postpaid 150 gets 25GB roaming data.
Once you’ve hit your free roaming data, your data browsing will be suspended until you purchase a new roaming pass. You can learn more about the new Roam Like Home offering here.
For those who have subscribed to Roam Like Home as a Freedom Add-on before 1st August, the previous version only covers 10 countries with 10GB of data per month. The previous Roam Like Home also gets 60 minutes of roaming calls as well as 60 minutes of IDD calls back to Malaysia from the 10 countries.
