Here’s the entire Apple M3 family of processors, M3 Ultra to feature up to 80 GPU cores

While most people are looking forward to the upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, notably because they’ll be featuring USB-C, Apple is also set to refresh their Mac lineup too a month after that. Chances are we’ll be seeing the new Apple M3 and just that for now, but new reports suggest that the entire M3 family of silicon has already been settled upon by Cupertino.

After months of leaks and hints about Apple’s next generation Macs and silicon, it appears that there’s now a pretty good idea of what the Apple M3 family will look like. As for the Apple M3 itself, it will certainly be coming with eight CPU cores split equally between performance and efficiency cores, on top of a 10-core GPU. This will likely be powering the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the two MacBook Air laptops, the Mac Mini and a new iMac, as well as the next generation iPad Pro.

Moving up the product stack, the M3 Pro will have at least 12 CPU cores split equally between performance and efficiency cores, while a higher end configuration of the M3 Pro adds two more performance cores to it. Similarly, the base M3 Pro gets an 18-core GPU, with the more powerful M3 Pro using a 20-core GPU. The M3 Pro is slated to be in the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16, and if Apple decides to continue what they did with the M2 Mac Mini, the tiny desktop may also get an M3 Pro model.

The M3 Max meanwhile will feature 16 CPU cores across its two configurations, packing 12 performance cores and four efficiency cores. The difference here is that its base configuration will get a 32-core GPU while for more money you can get a 40-core GPU instead. This will also be in the MacBook Pro 14 and MacBook Pro 16, as well as the base model Mac Studio.

And of course, Apple will have an M3 Ultra processor too, with 32 CPU cores, 24 of them performance cores and eight efficiency cores. The base configuration M3 Ultra gets a 64-core GPU, and if you absolutely need all the horsepower Cupertino can give you, the top end M3 Ultra will come with an 80-core GPU, four more cores than the most powerful M2 Ultra today. This will definitely be in next year’s Mac Studio, and maybe a Mac Pro too if Apple decides to refresh it in 2024.

The Apple M3 is set to debut in October likely in refreshed MacBook Air 13 and MacBook Air 15 laptops along with the 13-inch MacBook Pro and possibly either the Mac Mini or iMac. However, the M3 Pro, M3 Max and M3 Ultra will likely only debut next year if we’re following the release schedule precedent set by Apple.
