The Smart #1 (pronounced Smart Hashtag One) is coming to Malaysia very soon sometime in Q4 2023. We recently showed you the exterior and interior, and now here’s your chance to get up close and test drive the Smart #1 that’s developed by Mercedes-Benz and Geely.
Smart Malaysia is calling the public to register their interest in an opportunity for an exclusive preview and test drive of Smart #1. You can choose your preferred Smart dealership which is available in Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, Georgetown, Alor Setar, Melaka, Shah Alam and Skudai.
To reserve your seat, you can fill up the registration of interest form here. You can’t select a date or time slot yet so it is likely that Smart will contact you for further arrangements.
The Smart #1 is a fully electric compact SUV that’s designed by Mercedes-Benz and engineered by Geely. It uses Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) which is the same platform used by the new Volvo EX30 and the Zeekr X. It measures 4,270mm long, 1,822mm wide and 1,636mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,750mm.
On the inside, the Smart #1 gets a funky premium styling and it carries a lot of Mercedes-Benz design elements. The centre features a 12.8″ display running on a new infotainment system developed by Geely’s subsidiary ECARX. It also gets an AI assistant in the form of an animated fox and it has voice command features that can be triggered by saying “Hey Smart”. Interestingly, it uses the same Mercedes voice which shows its link to modern Mercedes models.
In front of the driver, the Smart #1 also gets a slim 9.2″ instrument cluster and it even gets a Heads-Up Display (HUD). The Smart #1 also gets a wireless charging pad and two USB-C ports up front, and the 12.8″ screen also supports wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto. This EV also gets a 13-speaker 640W Beats sound system which also gets a subwoofer in the boot.
The interior of the Smart #1 looks bigger than what the exterior suggests. There’s a decent amount of space for rear occupants and there are rear aircon vents and USB-C ports as well. The panoramic glass roof gives it a more airy feel and unlike the Tesla Model Y, the Smart #1 also gets an electronically controlled sunshade.
Speaking of boot, the Smart #1 cargo space is quite small at just 323 litres. However, you can slide the rear seats to boost up to 411 litres of storage capacity. With the rear seats folded, you’ll get a maximum of 986 litres. Under the hood, the Smart #1 also gets a frunk (front trunk) but it is quite small at just 15 litres.
